CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in partnership with CITB-NI and CIC, is committed to the development and implementation of a sector-specific agenda for basic skills. We recognise the importance of basic skills in contributing to business improvement and performance.

Principles
CITB-ConstructionSkills will play a leading role, in partnership with others, in providing access to learning and development opportunities for those with Basic Skills needs informed by the following principles:
Employability - aiding development of workplace basic skills, which will make an immediate and substantial contribution to business improvement and performance.
Engagement - facilitating the active involvement of key partners, including liaison with employers, training and education providers, and local, regional and national agencies to ensure comprehensive and cost-effective basic skills provision for the sector.
Equality of opportunity - to ensure that every person involved at every level is treated fairly and has access to the same opportunities irrespective of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or marital status.
ConstructionSkills is one of the five priority Sector Skills Councils working with DfES and QCA on leading with their Employability agenda
