Skills for Health aims to help the whole sector develop solutions that deliver a skilled and flexible UK workforce in order to improve health and healthcare.

To do this we will:

Develop and manage national workforce competences, leading and facilitating the development, maintenance and use of national workforce competence frameworks, embracing National Occupational Standards, and evaluating their impact and use.

Profile the UK workforce, bringing together Labour Market Intelligence for the whole UK health sector.

Identify and articulate sector workforce needs, working with and on behalf of a network of employers in the nations and regions of the UK.

Improve workforce skills, developing and implementing a strategy for skills escalation embracing the use of qualifications and career frameworks.

Influence education and training supply, ensuring the sector gets the skills it wants through influencing learning supply by developing a Sector Skills Agreement.

Developing employer-led partnership approaches to quality assurance of education and training.

Work with our partners, stakeholders and customers in a focussed and strategic way across the sector.

Who are we?

Skills for Health (SfH) was established in April 2002 and licensed by DfES as the UK Sector Skills Council (SSC) for health in May of 2004. We are part of the NHS, being hosted by a trust, but with our own board and management.

We cover the whole health sector – the NHS, and independent and voluntary employers. We are funded through the four UK health departments, SSDA, the Education Act Regulatory Bodies and the sector.

We do not provide training directly, and see education and training providers as some of our key partners.

Key people in this sector are:

  • Dan Wood: Web site Administrator
